Care for Mentally Challenged: Ian’s Story
Care for Mentally Challenged – Below is ‘A Mother’s Turning Point: Ian’s Story.’
Ian lived with his mother, Mary, who worked full-time and often travelled for her job – Very engaged. Her son, Ian, was battling Schizophrenia— a serious mental illness that usually affects an individual’s thought patterns, feelings, and behaviours. In fact, a person suffering from Schizophrenia has difficulties distinguishing reality from what is not real. This is a condition that requires constant, specialized care.
(Back to Mary): Overwhelmed by her demanding schedule, decided to hire a maid to look after her son while she was away. She believed it was a solution, but it was a MISTAKE. You see, mentally challenged individuals like Ian need more than just supervision; they require professional care. A maid or gate man, however well-meaning, are not equipped to handle the complexities of mental health conditions.
One Sunday afternoon, after our team delivered a presentation at a church conference, Mary realized she could no longer manage the situation alone. Time had come to let her son have the best life and care. So, she reached out to us at New Chapter Place Counseling and Rehabilitation Centre for help.
Finally, she entrusted Ian to a facility designed to offer what home couldn’t: professional care for mentally challenged, full-time therapy, structured nursing routines, and a serene environment conducive to healing. A rehabilitation center isn’t a prison or hospital; it’s a place of transformation and recovery.
Today, Ian is thriving. He’s better than he was at home or the hospital. He’s been progressing steadily, learning basic self-care, and gaining independence. He interacts with others recovering from our facility. This is his best life, that the hospital or home could not afford.
At New Chapter Place, we take on the hard work so families like Mary’s don’t have to bear the burden alone. Care for mentally challenged is our calling – The aim is to ensure mental wellness for those suffering from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and more. Above all, we ensure they live the best life possible.
